COQUITLAM, B.C. - Ireland is the latest team to commit to the 2016 FIL Under-19 Men’s World Lacrosse Championship which runs July 7-16, 2016, in Coquitlam, B.C.

This will be the first time an Irish lacrosse team has participated in an Under-19 championship tournament.

Ireland Lacrosse CEO Michael Kennedy emphasized the significance of the Irish team's involvement in this event.

"This is a huge step forward for our program in Ireland," Kennedy said. "It's all about the kids, and getting down to this next level after having a senior national team for a number of years is a critical step in our ongoing development of lacrosse in Ireland."

"We hope that participation in this tournament will be a real catalyst for our ongoing development efforts."

The Irish join Canada, the United States and Australia in the tournament that has already seen expression of interest from over 20 teams.

Ireland Lacrosse has announced the details of the team tryouts which run June 26-28, 2015 at the University of Limerick on the west coast of Ireland.
